Maternity Photoshoot- Celebrating our baby

Hey beauties !!

It’s been seventeen months when we had this maternity photoshoot. It was always on my mind to share it with you from the very beginning and was pending in my blog draft for a really long time and finally here it is.

We really wanted to celebrate the arrival of our newborn and thought maternity photoshoot could be a beautiful way to capture the essence of the moment when your baby is enclosed in the protective layers of belly and you can just feel it all the time with you/ within you. After  going through various searches on the internet we came across Peachlovephtography run by the Photographer duo – Varinder Sekhon and Parul Sekhon. As we saw their pics we knew that they actually define our taste and contacted them. We found them so easy to work with, friendly and guided us well with few poses. Being a mom of a young boy now two, Parul knew what a maternity period means to a woman and how important it meant for us. For the session we chose a less crowded park in Chandigarh, the weather was beautiful with sunset and it’s warm golden light did the whole magic to the photography.  I’m so glad we did, as one day we’ll get to share it with our little angel and we’re really grateful to them for capturing the shoot so well.

It was so difficult to select pictures for the blog as all were so beautiful and as we are new blessed with a beautiful girl. This life has got whole new meaning, love has got new depth and even a glimpse of her make our day.

What we wore:-

I wore a customised long flowy white gown altered to my shape with Steve Madden Treasure heels in silver. I kept my look minimal and more natural with slight wavy hair topped with lipstick safe in pregnancy.

My husband kept the look semi formal and wore purple sweater and snuggly fitted formal black pants from Marks & Spencer with a mauve shirt from Louis Philippe.

The Postpartum Must Haves – My List

Hello beauties,
How are you all? Sorry for being so inconsistent in writing, you know work and baby are keeping me super occupied. But after getting so many requests I thought I could really help you with this list as you all are so special to me. If you are reading this blog I’m sure either you are expecting, planning for it or reading it for someone you can help with.

It’s funny how in pregnancy the most you think about is baby, whatever you eat- how will it affect baby, how you work out- is it good for the pregnancy and baby, what you think- is that going to affect baby, and everything from labor, delivery, and taking care of the newborn, not giving much of a thought of how you will take care of yourself during the whole healing process after birth. I know mommy’s nature and practically I never thought I would be needed to be cared. Though to all my pregnant friends I always tend to advise them to sleep a lot as they will miss sleep the most after baby. 065.JPGYes, I still do miss sleep.

Sharing a little about my experience, it had been 18hours and I was still in labor, and the labor did not progress. Though I wanted a normal delivery but the things were not progressing and finally for both our wellbeing doctor decided for a C-Section. All that mattered to me that moment was having a healthy baby and getting rid of that bone crunching labor pain. Finally, I heard the most beautiful cry and the moment I saw my baby was magical, with her big beautiful eyes she was looking at me as if she knew I was her mom and all I could manage to say was “Hi, baby” and kiss her forehead. Even today when she is a year old whenever I look at her I feel the same elation.

Well coming back to our topic, thankfully, I had done some research beforehand and got all the essentials ready with me for the whole healing process after delivery and bumped into many more essential and helpful stuff later on. Here I’ve made a list of all those essentials which helped me throughout the recovery and I’m sure would be helpful to all breastfeeding and normal delivery moms too. Most importantly, you must never be discouraged, it’s difficult but it’s more beautiful and worth every effort as well. Must take lots of care of yourself and understand that your body went through a lot and it needs time to heal. “Learn to be at peace”.

Yoga Pants
These were so relaxing and comfortable and most helpful in the initial days after birth. All you want after the whole process is having some comfortable clothes. Get them in dark color as it might get stained.

Cozy clothes –
You would love to wear everything cozy around this time. Invest in some nice PJs and robes. You might be followed by lots of visitors around this time and you would not be able to dress up each time you have one and nice PJs and robes would make you look presentable.

Nursing Tops
I wore them literally all the time. It made nursing in the hospital and at home extremely easy. They come is several patterns and colors, you can even wear them on an outing.

Nursing Bra
Yes you really do need them, it changes the whole way of nursing. They come in sleep and supportive style.

Warm Socks
Keep those feet warm and cozy. You’re body is recovering and it needs care.

Postpartum must haves

Belly Band

Bellefit-Corset-1.jpg

This was my holy grail! What would I have done without it?! I opted for Bellefit Corset and I loved everything it did to me. Keeping my tummy secured and helped me in movement after C-Section, kept the tummy tucked in and made it look good and tight over the tops and finally helped in bringing my tummy back to its shape..Yayyy!!

Disposable Undies
You really don’t have strength and you don’t want someone to wash them for you. These are great for those initial days in the hospital or first few weeks and makes life easy for you.

Pads of All Sizes
The first few days after the delivery the flow (lochia) will be very heavy, and then it will gradually decrease over next two to four weeks. You will need to stock up with all the maternity pads, maxi pads or regular pads, depending on the flow. Some mothers swear by using adult diaper in the very first days.

Intimate Wipes
Very helpful for cleaning up and be sure to get ones for sensitive skin.

Nipple Cream
Essential for nursing and helping to soothe cracks and soreness and for me coconut oil was magic.  You won’t believe just how many things you can use it for! But if your nipples are hurting, go for an organic version of nipple butter/cream.

Breast Pads
You will leak when your milk comes in! Stock up on disposable and/or reusable pads.

Moisturise –
Usually after birth the skin gets very dry and you need to moisturise skin extra, go for more organic lotions and lip moisturizers like coconut oil, Shea butter etc.. In my case we had a midwife/ masseuse/ daai who used to come every day to give me and the baby full body massage and head massage with herbal oils and she literally kept me drenched in it for 6 weeks. I think that could be the reason I didn’t have any major hair loss postpartum.

Insulated Giant Water Bottle –
Stay hydrated!! Keep warm water in by your side and keep drinking from time to time.

Be Open
Say ‘YES’ to your family and friends who
give you hand in taking care of baby or help you out with the household chores , bring food for you and even help in giving baby a burp. Never forget to thank everyone who helped you in that phase of your life.

Wish you all a happy, healthy and beautiful recovery.

How I dressed my bump-From regular to maternity clothes

Hello my beauties,

Finding out having a baby is an amazing experience but pregnancy styling was definitely a big challenge for me at the beginning, the first trimester. All of a sudden even before you know you are pregnant the symptoms start popping up in your physique, not the whole but the upper part. The increasing gap between the buttons of your well fitted shirt, being unable to zip up your pretty dress which was just perfect last month, that all’s so much to take in. I didn’t want spend my nine months in the sartorial wilderness and didn’t want to splurge my money on whole new wardrobe or buying those so expensive maternity clothes, I was all back to the drawing board, staying true to my style, making my old wardrobe work with my new body, creating my maternity wardrobe from the stuff I already had and the new stuff to be included, which I could carry for several months from prenatal to postnatal. After months of figuring out what actually works,  I thought of sharing the whole ideas of maternity styling trimester wise with all the expecting moms there.

First trimester style-
In the first trimester there’s so much going on with your body, you are exhausted, nauseated, all hormones and figuring out all the new changes. You just want keep yourself comfy and not messed up. I utilized as much as I can from the old wardrobe. Loose tanks, flared tops, stretchy jeans, comfy shoes, scarves to cover up the ever increasing busts, as you might would not like people to get the news so soon. It all went perfectly well and keeping the looks high effortlessly.

Maternity style- for a walk

Second and third trimester style-
Loved the flowy tops, peplum throughout the maternity. They are chic comfy, hide the bump easily and can go with almost anything, denim, skirts, leggings. Few shrugs to keep yourself warm and and hide the bump. 898d36348d85cea3fe045f8ea52b3b67The jeans from your pre-pregnancy can go upto the mid of second trimester using the rubber band trick keeping you in your favorite pair of jeans.
Ah those Zara body shaping leggings from my pre-maternity and the new ones bought in the same pre-pregnancy size, they were my saviour throughout my pregnancy, their well broad bands around the waist served the purpose till the end of third trimester, well fitted, stretchy, comfy, best investment I made.
If it’s still feel tight to you it’s time to splurge in nice pair of maternity pants. H&M, Zara and Seraphine have got amazing pairs of skinny maternity pants.

Maternity style- casual

Just like the flowy tops shift dresses, fleece leggings, tights and sweaters were another favourite. Keeping me warm and not so bumpy. Pairing them up with neck accessories were my on the go to the parties with my girl friends, outings etc. etc.

Maternity Style - The Chic look

Layering it up-
If you are living in colder places like me never ever forget to layer up. During your pregnancy your body is at higher risk of getting cold or flu leaving you more vulnerable to viral and bacterial infections. So it’s better to protect yourself from cold and chills. Keep the stuff which could cover your growing belly in chills or could be worn later on when you bounce back to your pre-pregnancy shape. The capes, shrugs, trenchesblanket scarves are versatile for this purpose.

Maternity Style- Layer it up

Dressing up for the occasion

Deciding what to wear for an occasion can be easier on usual but when you are expecting it makes whole lot of difference. You can embrace your bumps with a jersey dress or maxi dress dressing it up or down according to the occasion and your choice. And if it’s a night event, layer it with a nice chic coat paired with your favourite boot and warm leggings, protecting you from the chills.

Maternity Style - For a romantic date

The must haves clothes-
From the very pregnancy to the baby every expecting mom should make room in her closet for these essential clothes for during and after pregnancy.
Maternity Bras– Trust me you need them. To fit in with the ever changing size of your chest these are super comfy, and sort of life saviour.
Nursing or maternity tanks, jumper and tops – They fit on the bump very well and later on serves the nursing purpose later.
Nursing shawl  It’s one thing serving the multiple purpose can be worn as a poncho draping the bump, cape, scarf, luxury wrap, swaddling blanket or scarf. Simply love it.

Maternity Style- bump to baby

Wish you all a happy healthy and beautiful pregnancy.

What I’m getting this Spring!! Big announcement

Hello my beauties!!
I know some of you already know what I’m about to get this spring.. After striving hard to keep it a secret for so many months, the beans still spilled around. Yes! We are pregnant and having a baby this spring. I know it’s a surprise for many of you. But ya here it is.!! Time to have team pink or team blue. 🙂

pink-blue

So our story begins this way-

We were just coming close to the end of our anniversary celebrations after a romantic weekend (all planned by my husband), we were sitting by the window watching beautiful sunrise next morning I was suddenly smacked with all sorts of nausea. At first I thought it was the wine I had previous night but that was weird and ambivalent, furthermore, I had been getting plenty of pregnancy dreams for past couple weeks, so just to make it all clear later that night I took the home pregnancy kit, I was kind of confident it was in vain. But then the two pink lines appeared in the viewfinder (they indicate the test is positive). “Oh, No” I said, over and over. I was literally in shock. I ran to Sandeep and stood there shaking and kind of sobbing and showed the test to him with the instruction manual on the cover package. He was bewildered. We didn’t know what to say next. He just took me in his arms and held me for long. There we had it or should we not rely on the kit. We decided to not to conclude over anything till we meet the Gynaecologist and until he confirms the pregnancy.

Having a baby was something we had dreamed of, but it was something that was planned for a couple of years down the road. We had plans, trips, hikings and plenty of goals set up that didn’t have a baby written into them. We had a lot to grasp in. Certainly our reaction on the news wasn’t as exhilarated as it was supposed to be like we always watch in the movies, soaps etc.  Our fingers were crossed till we met the OB/Gyn.

So finally it was Gyn day. He did some clinical tests and asked us to get sonography first. After half an hour sonogram was in our hands. OMG that moment. We saw that teeny tiny round bean type thing inside the dark circle in the picture. We were all in tears with happiness. I was like “this is our baby”. I was able to see my baby. Holding first picture of our baby. Yes! we were having a baby. That small teeny tiny innocent thing, which was about to come to this world.  May be for the first time we realised what is it like falling in love at first sight. We were deeply in love with him/her. And our everything in the world revolved around the baby and every step, every decision started having baby in it.Sandeep sikkim MTB 826

Sandeep was so overjoyed and wanted just to shout out to the world that we are about to be mommy and daddy.  I had to calm him down to zip up his mouth till we reach the right time as there were plenty of articles on the internet suggesting to break the news in your 12th week because anything can happen in the very initial stage and we were just at our 6th week. Thankfully I had a great mommy girlfriend with whom I could share all the changes that were happening to me it made me feel so comfortable. After 12th week we shared the news one by one to both our families and friends. We were so overwhelmed with the love and blessings they showered on us and definitely the never ending lists of tips suggestions, old housewives tales etc. etc.

It’s the craziest thing that ever happened to me and my body. All the hormone changes, heightened emotions mostly joyful. Everyone around me being so concerned, supportive and loving towards me. The love for the baby is growing at an exponential pace and the overwhelming excitement and anticipation. It’s really being an amazingly beautiful journey. An entirely different phase from the rest of my life has ever been and we are simply enjoying it.

Thankyou so much guys for all your support and love all the time. I can literally cry this moment.

Never ending preparations, plans, accepting the changes since the very beginning. So much stuff in the near future.  I’ve so many stories and stuff to share with you guys like the pregnancy must haves, beauty care, clothes and fashion, which I promise to share with you in my next blogs. As I’ve still got couple of weeks till the baby arrives.
